Fishing charter client holding a Red Snapper fish caught with Salty Dawg Fishing Charters in Ocean Isle Beach

My Nearshore Fishing Charters run year-round out of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, offering exciting opportunities to target Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Cobia, Black Sea Bass, Triggerfish, Gag Grouper, Red Snapper, Flounder, seasonal Bull Red Drum, and more. These trips are perfect for anglers looking to put fish in the boat, with no experience required.

Nearshore trips are the perfect bridge between inshore and offshore fishing. They’re close enough to shore to stay comfortable, but far enough to chase bigger fish like Grouper and Snapper. Few things beat watching a King Mackerel skyrocket 100 feet from the boat — if that sounds exciting, a nearshore fishing charter might be a great fit for you.

I offer 4-hour and 6-hour nearshore fishing charters, each taking you to different reefs, ledges, and shipwrecks. My 4-hour trips stay within 10 miles of shore, while my 6-hour trips run out up to 20 miles offshore of Ocean Isle Beach, Sunset Beach, and Holden Beach NC. If you’re looking to go even farther, contact Captain Harvey directly about a custom offshore adventure.

My nearshore charters typically depart at 6:30 AM and 10:45 AM from Ocean Isle Beach, NC. During the winter months, trips depart at 8:00 AM and 12:15 PM.

We bottom fish year-round on reefs, ledges, and wrecks. From April through November, trolling for King Mackerel brings explosive, drag-screaming bites. Spanish Mackerel and Cobia show up in late spring, and casting or freelining baits for Cobia is one of the most exciting ways to fish. In winter, our closest nearshore artificial reefs — just 3 miles offshore — are loaded with Sea Bass that can be caught with bait or vertical jigging.

My nearshore fishing charters give you access to some of the best fishing spots along the North Carolina and South Carolina coast. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or brand new to nearshore fishing, these trips deliver fun, fast-paced action and a real shot at a trophy fish.

Nearshore Fishing Charter FAQ

Do I need a fishing license for the charter?

No, you don’t need a fishing license! Your charter includes all necessary licenses (for NC and SC), so you can focus on enjoying your fishing trip.

What should I bring on the fishing trip?

I recommend bringing sunscreen, sunglasses, snacks, drinks, and weather-appropriate clothing. I’ll provide all the fishing gear, bait, and safety equipment you'll need!

What types of fish can I expect to catch?

On my nearshore fishing charters, you can target trophy species like Bull Redfish, Cobia, King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Flounder, Bluefish, Sea Bass, and Black Drum. Seasonal availability may vary, so feel free to ask about current fishing conditions.

Is the trip suitable for kids or beginners?

Absolutely! My trips are family-friendly and perfect for beginners (as well as very experienced saltwater anglers). Captain Harvey will guide you every step of the way, making it fun and educational for everyone. Also, if you're looking for a trip for the kids on calmer waters, Captain Harvey does offer 2 Hour Kids Fishing Charters in Ocean Isle Beach, Holden Beach, and Sunset Beach.

What is included in the cost of the charter?

Your charter includes all fishing gear, tackle, bait, and safety equipment. I also provide a cooler with ice for your drinks and snacks, and I provide bottle water. Just show up ready to fish!

Do you run nearshore fishing charters out of Holden Beach and Sunset Beach?

Yes — many of my nearshore trips are spent fishing just off the beaches of both Holden Beach and Sunset Beach. These areas give us quick access to the nearshore reefs, live bottom, and inlet structure where we target species like King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Bull Redfish, Cobia, Red Snapper, Gag Grouper, and Black Sea Bass.

If you’re vacationing in Holden Beach or Sunset Beach, we can meet at a nearby dock so you can be fishing within minutes of leaving home.

You can learn more about how these trips are run on my Holden Beach fishing charters and Sunset Beach fishing charters pages.
