My NC Speckled Trout Fishing Charters are a favorite for light-tackle anglers and are caught throughout much of the year in the ICW, creeks, and river systems around Ocean Isle Beach. Cool-water trips often produce the largest fish.

Inshore Fishing Charter FAQ

I've answered some of the most common questions to help you plan your inshore fishing charter. If you have additional questions, feel free to contact me! -Captain Harvey

Do I need a fishing license for the charter?

No, you don’t need a fishing license! Your charter includes all necessary licenses, so you can focus on enjoying your fishing trip.

What should I bring on the fishing trip?

I recommend bringing sunscreen, sunglasses, snacks, drinks, and weather-appropriate clothing. We’ll provide all the fishing gear, bait, and safety equipment you'll need!

What types of fish can I expect to catch?

On my inshore fishing charters, you can target trophy species like Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, Black Drum, and occasionally, we target Sheepshead. Seasonal availability may vary, so feel free to ask about current fishing conditions.

Is the trip suitable for kids or beginners?

Absolutely! My trips are family-friendly and perfect for beginners (as well as very experienced inshore saltwater anglers). Captain Harvey will guide you every step of the way, making it fun and educational for everyone. Also, Captain Harvey does offer 2 Hour Kids Fishing Charters in Ocean Isle Beach, Holden Beach, and Sunset Beach.

What is included in the cost of the charter?

Your charter includes all fishing gear, tackle, bait, and safety equipment. I also provide a cooler with ice for your drinks and snacks, and I provide bottle water. Just show up ready to fish!

What rod and reel setup do you use for inshore fishing?

Most days on my Ocean Isle Beach inshore charters, I’m running a 7’ medium / fast spinning rod with a 2500–3000 reel, 15 lb braid, and a 20 lb fluorocarbon leader. It’s the most versatile setup I’ve found for redfish, speckled trout, flounder, black drum, and sheepshead.

If you want the exact combos I personally recommend (including a premium pick and a budget-friendly option) — and why I run them — check out my full guide: Best Inshore Rod & Reel Combos for 2026.

Do you offer inshore fishing charters in Holden Beach and Sunset Beach, NC?

Yes — many of my inshore trips take place in the waters around both islands, including the ICW, creeks, marshes, and nearby backwaters where we target Redfish, Speckled Trout, Flounder, and Black Drum.

If you are staying in either area, I can meet you at a local boat ramp close to your rental so we can be fishing within minutes of leaving the ramp.
