Fishing Opportunities by Location

  • Ocean Isle Beach: Ocean Isle is an awesome location for year-round inshore and nearshore fishing. The Intracoastal Waterway (ICW), Shallotte Inlet, and Jinks Creek provide excellent opportunities for targeting Redfish, Speckled Trout, and Flounder. And nearshore reefs like the Jolly Mon Reef are great for King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Sea Bass, etc...
  • Holden Beach: Holden Beach also has great inshore fishing from the west end at Shallotte Inlet to the East end at Lockwood Folly Inlet. The ICW, ans well as all the local creeks and marshes hold redfish year-round and seasonally hold great numbers of Speckled Trout and Redfish. Great nearshore trolling, too.
  • Sunset Beach: Sunset Beach, from Tubbs Inlet on the east end to Little River Inlet on the west end, holds great fishing opportunities for Red Drun, Flounder, Trout, and Black Drum. Creeks like Bonaparte Creek provide great inshore fishing opportunities year-round.
  • Calabash and Shallotte: These Shallotte River, Calabash River, and the coastal marshes and tidal creeks offer some of the best backwater fishing experiences.
  • Little River Inlet: A fantastic spot for catching a mix of inshore and nearshore fish, known for it's Bull Drum fishing in the Fall, Summertime shark fishing, Winter trout fishing, and year-round fishing for Black Drum and Sheepshead.

Seasonal Fishing and What to Expect

Each season brings its own fishing opportunities along the Carolina coast. Here’s what to expect throughout the year:

  • Spring Fishing: As waters warm, speckled trout and redfish become more active, while flounder start moving into inlets.
  • Summer Fishing: Nearshore fishing heats up with Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Cobia, and sharks making their way to our nearshore waters.
  • Fall Fishing: One of our best seasons for fishing, with large Bull Redfish, Flounder, and Trout feeding aggressively inshore and the opportunity to catch smoker Kingfish nearshore.
  • Winter Fishing: Speckled Trout and Redfish are still available, often schooling in deeper pockets of the inshore waters. And Sea Bass are plentiful along our nearshore reefs.
