Booking a Shallotte fishing charter gives you fast access to the ICW, the Shallotte River, Saucepan Creek, and Shallotte Inlet — some of the most productive inshore water in southern Brunswick County.
I’m Captain Harvey Wall, a full-time local guide, and I run fishing charters in Shallotte, NC for anglers who want a trip that’s simple, professional, and focused on catching fish. Whether you’re fishing with your family, introducing kids to saltwater fishing, or looking for a light-tackle inshore trip, this area offers protected water and year-round opportunities.
Most of my Shallotte fishing charters focus on redfish, speckled trout, flounder, and black drum in the river, creeks, and along the ICW. We also catch sheepshead around docks, bridges, and other hard structure. If you're interested in catching Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Grouper, Snapper, or Sharks, we can also run out of Shallotte Inlet to fish nearshore reefs and shipwrecks like Jolly Mon Reef or other area artificial reefs.
Why Fish in Shallotte, NC?
Shallotte sits in a sweet spot: you’re close to multiple productive zones without spending your whole trip riding. You’ve got the ICW running right through the area, the Shallotte River system, and quick access to the inlet for nearshore fishing and shark fishing.
- Shallotte River: A tidal river system that fishes well from the mouth at the ICW all the way to where it crosses Main Street in Shallotte. The upper end is classic marsh water with expansive grass flats, oyster bars, and creek mouths that hold redfish, flounder, black drum, and speckled trout throughout the year.
- Saucepan Creek: A high-current marsh system just across the ICW from Shallotte Inlet where I look for quality fish when they’re in the area. Its proximity to the inlet creates strong water movement, provides very clear water, and in the fall the mouth of the creek becomes a key staging zone for bull redfish.
- Shallotte Inlet: Powerful current, constant bait movement, and hard structure make this a prime spot at the right tides for inshore gamefish, sharks, and seasonal bull redfish.
- Nearshore Reefs & Wrecks: With about a 15-minute run out of Shallotte Inlet, we can be fishing at Jolly Mon Reef for Spanish Mackerel, King Mackerel, Cobia, Gag Grouper, and Sea Bass. Several other productive reefs and shipwrecks are located just a short ride from the inlet.
Fishing Charters in Shallotte NC
Most Shallotte trips are focused on smart, efficient fishing — no wasted time, no guessing, and no “hoping.” We’ll pick the best plan for the day based on conditions and what you want out of the trip (easy family fishing, more technical lure fishing, meat fishing, or a shot at something big).
Target Species on Shallotte Fishing Trips
Depending on season and conditions, here are the main species we target around Shallotte:
- Redfish: Year-round opportunities, with the best big-fish window in the fall around inlet zones and deeper structure.
- Speckled Trout: A top target in cooler months, plus consistent opportunities in the right patterns year-round.
- Flounder: A spring-through-fall favorite in creek mouths, docks, and edge structure.
- Black Drum: Great for kids and beginners (easy bites), plus larger fish show up around structure and deeper holes.
How We Fish This Area
In the Shallotte River, Saucepan Creek, and along the ICW, we’ll fish grass lines, docks, creek mouths, oyster edges, and drop-offs. Most trips are light-tackle and often involve artificial lures, but bait is always on the table when it’s the best option for the conditions.
If you want to run nearshore, we’ll time the inlet and sea conditions, then fish places like Jolly Mon Reef and other local reefs / shipwrecks for a mixed bag. Nearshore can include trolling (seasonal) and bottom fishing (often year-round when conditions allow).
Wildlife and Scenery on the Water
The Shallotte River and surrounding marshes are loaded with coastal wildlife. It’s common to see dolphins, wading birds (egrets and herons), pelicans, and in the summer months you may even spot roseate spoonbills. In warmer months, alligators can also be present in certain backwater areas.
What to Expect on Your Shallotte Fishing Charter
I’m based at 67 Causeway Drive, Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469, but for guest convenience I can meet you at the Brick Landing Boat Ramp in Shallotte when you book a Shallotte fishing charter. This is simply an optional trip meeting location — my home base and business location remain in Ocean Isle Beach — and it makes things easy for vacationers who are staying in Shallotte and want to get on the water quickly.
- Arrival time: Please plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early so we can load up and get lines in the water fast.
- Parking: Public parking is available at the ramp area. On busy summer mornings, arriving a little early helps.
- What to bring: Sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, snacks/drinks, and a small bag.
Once we’re loaded up, I’ll do a quick safety briefing, get everyone set up with the right gear, and we’ll make a short run to our first fishing spot based on the tide, weather, and the species we’re targeting that day.
